 The
MAP 76S ("S" for sensors) includes all the features found
in the MAP76 plus a built-in electronic compass,
barometric pressure sensor, 24 megabytes of internal memory and 10,000
track points. Unlike a traditional GPS, which requires movement to show
a heading, the built-in electronic compass will give a heading while
the user is standing still.
The barometric
pressure information can help identify weather trends and best fishing
opportunities. It also improves the accuracy of the elevation values
over what you get in a regular gps. You can display detailed graphs
of elevation vs distance or time (for mountain hiking, for example),
pressure vs time (for weather trends). The graphs are set up beautifully,
with the zoom-in/out button changing the graph scale. The user-interface
here is especially well done, in our opinion. The unit can be used to
collect x,y,z values for a gravel pile, a farm field, a borrow pit etc.
which can be used to make a 3D map.
The MAP
76S is WAAS capable and position accuracy can be less than 3 meters
(x,y, and z). The MAP 76S provides large number displays and graphic
navigation screens all easily accessible though Garmin's user-friendly
operating system. You can easily change the position, size and content
of the 'data fields' on every page, making the unit very customizeable.
A build-in
base map contains cities, interstates, coastlines and more. This unit
has 24 megabytes of internal user memory for storing optional MapSource
detailed map, including BlueChart marine cartography. This memory is
preloaded from the factory with worldwide cities (populations greater
than 200 000) and nautical navigation aids such as lights, buoys, sound
signals, and day beacons. The MAP 76S is also loaded with tide data
for the United States.
Like
all Garmin GPS units, this unit is software upgradable, which means
you'll always have the latest version of the GPS operating system...
