Quarter Sections on microSD/SD Instructions

For Garmin nüvi series:

1. With GPS off, insert data card into the GPS unit's memory slot (use SD adapter if your model has SD slot).
2. Turn on the GPS unit (if unit has sufficient internal memory you may be prompted to copy the data from the data card to internal memory; you may answer YES or NO, quarter section lookup will work either way).
3. Click 'Where to?'.
4. If the quarter section is more than 50 KM away click 'near' then enter a nearby town.  If not, ignore this step.
5. Click 'Extras' (may need to scroll down).
6. Click 'Custom POIs' (and province if you purchased more than one province).
7. Individual quarters will show up in a list sorted by distance from your current location (or from the town selected as 'near' above).
8. Click on one of the quarters in the list or click 'Spell' and enter destination quarter section in the following format:

Sw04-028-07w4 (quarter, section, township, range, meridian)

(dashes are required; letters can be upper or lowercase; section and range must be 2 digits; middle township number must be 3 digits)

9. Once quarter section is found, click on it and hit 'Go!'. 

Tips:

-Garmin have about 30 different nüvi models exact steps may vary slighlty from above.
-if you find the search is taking too long, hit 'done' on the GPS after entering only Section and Township (eg. Sw04-028). 
-after clicking 'Go!' and the route is calculated, click bar at top of screen to display a list of turn-by-turn directions.
-click show map to view a useful overview of whole route.
-click 'detour' if road ahead is blocked (snow, water?) and nuvi will calculate alternate route.
-after route is calculated you can enter a 'via' point (eg. lunch on the way to the quarter section) 
  click 'where to', 'cities', 'spell'(type city name and then click city, 'Go!' and finally click 'add as via point').

For a Garmin 76Cx/76CSx/60Cx/60CSsx:

1. Insert card in GPS when GPS is off. Turn on GPS and press the 'FIND' button.
2. Select 'Custom Points of Interest' then press 'ENTR'.
3. Individual quarters will show up in a list sorted by distance from current location.
4. If the quarter section is more than 50 KM away press 'MENU', select 'Change Reference', press 'ENTR'. Move the pointer near the area you will be searching, press 'ENTR'. This will now list the quarter sections near that area.
4. Press 'MENU', select 'Nearest Containing' then press 'ENTR'.
5. Enter destination quarter section in the following format:

Sw04-028-07w4 (quarter, section, township, range, meridian)

(dashes are required; letters can be upper or lowercase; section and range must be 2 digits; middle township number must be 3 digits)

6. Select 'OK' then press 'ENTR'.
7. Select the Quarter Section, press 'ENTR'.
8. Select 'Go To' press 'ENTR'.
9. Select 'Follow Road' press 'ENTR'. 

Tips:

To setup a Garmin GPSMAP60Cx,60SCx,76Cx or 76CSx
to display the 1/4 sections effectively on the map page, do the following:

-press menu, menu, setup, map, and hit enter
-scroll over to the map setup - Points icon, then under
 map points, change the max zoom value to '0.3 miles'

-under map setup - Text change the user waypoints text size to 'small'
